Agenda:

1 PM: Dede Cummings of DC Designs wll present Photoshop for Web Design and Organization, A presentation on creating a graphic design Photoshop document for Web design to pass on to a Web developer. While Cummings enjoys working with clients to create logos and the architecture for their web sites, she is not a web designer per se, but rather a "monograph" or book designer who relishes the chance to use the web as a "book." The sites she has designed include numerous artists' sites and authors' sites.

Design items to be discussed include alignment, type (and use of bold, italic, letterspacing, etc.), sinkage, use of graphics and rules, and, just as important, the margins, will provide a sense of structure or “hierarchy” for the element within the overall design. We will discuss the use of negative space effectively as well along with color and ease of navigation. Cummings will teach viewers how to effectively organize the various pages by grouping elements and creating links. he will also explain how to use jpegs effectively when a logo or graphic of special typographic elements are needed. Proper file preparation for crisp image reproduction will be taught as well.

Dede Cummings has been a book designer for the past twenty-five years. She is currently the sole proprietor of DCDESIGN in Brattleboro, Vermont, which specializes in designing books, publications, marketing materials and web sites. Dede is a five-time winner of the prestigious New England Book Award for her design and typography. She has taught book design and design software (Quark Xpress, InDesign, and Photoshop) for The Bookbuilders of Boston Advanced Seminars, Community College of Vermont, Great River Arts Institute, and at the Marlboro College Technology Center.
